Also included in these fees are all vaccinations (including Rabies),

a supply of the animal's food to get you started at home. The

Rabbits and other small creatures are $25.00 depending on
what comes with them (some come with their original cages, food
and bedding etc). All bunnies will be spayed or neutered before
adoption.
Reserving
an Animal
Sometimes people wish to adopt an
animal before it is ready to go home, such as a dog or cat that
has not been spayed or neutered. In those cases you may pay a
deposit to hold the animal. The deposit is $100.00 for dogs and
$50.00 for cats, and will be applied against the final adoption
donation. Please note that we no longer allow puppies and
kittens to go to new homes until they are spayed or neutered and
have had all their vaccinations. Deposits are not refundable, so
please be sure you want the animal before placing a deposit on
it.
What Does
"Adoption Pending" Mean?
"Adoption
Pending" can mean one of a few things. If a dog is being
adopted, but has yet to be spayed or neutered, it's description
may say "Adoption Pending". If an animal is being adopted, but
is not ready to go to a new home yet, the website will ready
"Adoption Pending". Sometimes we have
multiple applications for the same animal. When we mark an
animal as "Adoption Pending" it means that we have received two
or more suitable applications, and are not accepting any more
applications for the animal. Once we have finalized the
adoption, the animal will be marked "Adopted" on the web site.
Either way if an animal's description reads "Adoption Pending"
then he or she is not available for adoption.
What's a
Microchip?
A microchip is an electronic
device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted
just under the skin between an animals shoulders. It can be read
by a small handheld scanner. When you adopt your cat or dog,
you will be asked to register the microchip number with Petwatch . If
your animal is ever lost and taken to a vet or shelter, they are
able to get your phone number from Petwatch so
that you can be reunited with the animal. There is no annual
cost for this service.
What
Happens to Unadopted Animals?
We are frequently asked what
happens to dogs and cats that are not adopted within, say, 30
days. The Upper Credit Humane Society keeps all adoptable dogs
and cats until they find a new home. We recently had a dog go to
a new home after being with us for over a year. Also, we do
not send animals to research facilities if they are not
adopted. We also work with various rescue organizations who help
us place hard-to-adopt animals. Be assured that we do everything
in our power to get all our animals placed into suitable homes,
regardless of how long it takes.
Private
Adoptions
From time-to-time we will help an
individual find a new home for their dog or cat. We usually do
this by listing their pet on our web site and by putting
prospective new owners in touch with the current owner. Other
than that the Upper Credit Humane Society is not involved in the
adoption and any arrangements made are strictly between the old
and new owners.
