Organizational Objectives

The objectives of the UCHS are:

  1. To protect animals in need by offering food, water, shelter, and medical attention.

  2. To provide for the humane care and treatment of all animals in the possession of the society.

  3. To find suitable homes for unwanted or unclaimed animals.

  4. When possible, to return native wildlife to its natural habitat.

  5. To develop and promote, through education and public awareness, the humane treatment of all animals.

  6. To prevent cruelty to animals, birds and fish by assisting in the enforcement of all animal protection laws.

  7. To raise the funds necessary to achieve these objectives.

What Happens to Unadopted Animals?

We are frequently asked what happens to dogs and cats that are not adopted within, say, 30 days. The Upper Credit Humane Society keeps all adoptable dogs and cats until they find a new home. We recently had a dog go to a new home after being with us for over a year. Also, we do not send animals to research facilities if they are not adopted. We also work with various rescue organizations that help us place hard-to-adopt animals. Be assured that we do everything in our power to get all our animals placed into suitable homes, regardless of how long it takes.
